Mengirs call the most ancient construction monuments of mankind. Mengir is usually a single stone set in a certain place and representing some kind of cult value. This stone was most often “used” unprocessed, although mengiras with traces of some processing are found.
It is believed that all other human buildings, as it were, have “descended” from menhirs. The closest “descendants” of Mengirov are dolmens and the so -called “handji” – compositions from monumental stones arranged in a circle. The oldest handji were wooden. Such buildings are the historical pride of Great Britain, and the most important “hand” – Stonehenge – is known now around the world. Although dolmens and other similar stone buildings are distant “descendants” of menhirs, sometimes they are found nearby. Famous in the Abinsky district of Mengir is located very close to the dolmens described above with star cards. But the “handja” apparently did not exist here. This is one of the evidence in favor of the fact that the builders of the dolmens in the Caucasus were a new people: their distant ancestors also passed the stages “from menhirs through Henji to dolmens”, but, apparently, in other places.
